Privacy & Data Security Policy

Your data security is critical to our infrastructure. This policy outlines exactly what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how our cybersecurity frameworks and OSP network keeps it locked down.

01

What is Personal Information?

To put it simply, if someone can figure out who you are or learn something specific about you from the information you provide, it’s classified as personal information under South African law.

This includes:

  • Identity & Contact: Name, physical delivery address, email, phone numbers, and corporate tax IDs.
  • Demographics: Age, gender, location data, or institutional affiliations (e.g., University student numbers).
  • Financial Data: Masked payment methods, billing history, and subscription status for Akira Premium Care.
  • Digital Footprint: Online behavior, IP addresses, browser agents, and interaction logs on our platform.
02

Why Do We Collect It?

We only collect the information we absolutely need to give you a seamless shopping, networking, and repair experience. We will never sell your data to external marketing agencies.

Account & Subscription Management

  • To securely set up your Akira account, Client Portal, and repair dashboards.
  • To facilitate seamless, encrypted logins and authenticate support requests.
  • Premium Services: If you subscribe to Akira Premium Care, we require secure banking/card details to manage recurring billing.

Logistics & Service Delivery

  • We require physical addresses to dispatch hardware couriers or field technicians for Starlink installations and repairs.
  • We may require ID or corporate verification to approve high-volume B2B enterprise orders.
03

Cybersecurity & Threat Mitigation

Protecting your data is the cornerstone of our IT infrastructure. Akira Technology Solutions employs advanced, enterprise-grade cybersecurity measures to ensure your personal and payment information is impenetrable.

Encryption & Storage

All sensitive customer data, including passwords and personal details, is heavily encrypted both at rest (in our databases) and in transit (via SSL/TLS protocols). We do not store raw credit card numbers on our servers under any circumstances.

Active Monitoring & WAF

Our platform sits behind robust Web Application Firewalls (WAF) and DDoS protection networks. We actively monitor for suspicious login attempts, brute-force attacks, and deploy automated rate-limiting to protect your account integrity.

04

Third-Party Online Service Providers (OSPs)

To provide you with a world-class platform, Akira Technology Solutions integrates with several highly vetted Online Service Providers (OSPs) and Sub-Processors.

Who We Partner With

  • Payment Gateways: PayFast, Yoco, and Ozow process all transactions securely. They have their own strict PCI-DSS compliance requirements.
  • Cloud Hosting: We utilize Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Vercel for high-speed, secure database hosting and edge network delivery.
  • CDN & Security: Cloudflare provides our DNS infrastructure, DDoS mitigation, and global caching to keep the site fast and safe.
  • Logistics: Secure courier partners require your address and phone number to execute physical deliveries successfully.

We enforce strict Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with all OSPs to ensure your data is handled solely for its intended purpose and in compliance with South African privacy laws.

05

Cookies, Telemetry & Tracking

To build a lightning-fast, highly personalized storefront, Akira utilizes cookies (tiny text files stored on your device) and localized telemetry data.

Functional & Session Data

Cookies are mandatory for keeping you securely logged in, remembering the contents of your shopping cart, and applying your specific B2B or Reward tier discounts smoothly across pages.

Anonymized Analytics

We gather anonymous telemetry—like which product pages crash or how fast images load—to identify bugs and optimize the platform. We do not use intrusive cross-site tracking pixels to follow you around the web.

06

Cross-Border Data Transfers

Because Akira Technology Solutions leverages modern cloud infrastructure (such as AWS and global CDNs) to guarantee 99.9% uptime, your data may occasionally be transferred to, or stored on, servers located outside of South Africa.

When this happens, we ensure that the foreign jurisdiction provides an adequate level of data protection equivalent to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), or we mandate strict, legally binding data transfer agreements with the host to guarantee your privacy is never compromised.

07

Your Security Responsibilities

Protect Your Credentials

Criminals often steal login details from one website to try and break into accounts on other platforms. You must protect yourself by using strong, unique passwords for your Akira account (at least 8 characters, including symbols and numbers).

NEVER SHARE YOUR LOGIN DETAILS OR PASSWORDS WITH ANYONE.

08

Your Rights Under POPIA

Your Absolute Rights

  • Request a record or exact description of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request that we correct inaccurate info (you can also do this yourself in your dashboard).
  • Ask that we permanently delete your personal information (note: this will permanently close your account).
  • Object to us using your data for marketing (simply hit 'unsubscribe' in our emails).

Data Retention Policy

We do not keep your information forever. We only retain it for as long as you actively use our services, or as explicitly required by South African law for tax, warranty, and corporate record-keeping purposes.

If you unsubscribe from marketing, we stop immediately, but we will retain your email solely to send you transactional updates regarding active hardware orders.

Lodging a Formal Complaint

If you are unhappy with how your information is handled, contact our Support Hub immediately. If we fail to resolve it, you have the legal right to escalate your complaint to the South African Information Regulator.
